May 2015

Dear 1965 HPHS Classmates:

It was May 1, 1965, and we were eagerly anticipating our graduation from High Point.  Now it’s May 1, 2015, in minutes that fifty years melted away, and we were 18 again as we greeted old friends and classmates.

Our 50th high school reunion celebration began on May 1 at Lake Presidential Golf Course in Upper Marlboro as the golfers in our class met to play.  The golfers included Rich Reinoehl, Sam Smith, Steve Anderson, TJ Tellejohn, Jack Moffett, Sandi Johnson Watt and Tom Hontz.  Unfortunately, we have no pictures from the day, but everyone enjoyed their time together.

On Friday evening we gathered at the Annapolis Elks Lodge in Edgewater, Maryland for a “Mighty Mo Sock Hop.” Approximately 90 of our classmates and their guests danced to the music from DJ and keyboardist Rick (Ransom).  We had guest musical performances by classmates Steve Dellinger, Mike McConkey and Dennis Monke.

Dinner was provided by T & S Concessions, Berkeley Springs, West Virginia (tsconcessions@gmail.com; 304-676-9510).  We were treated to a Mighty Mo or Teen Twist, French fries or onion rings an Orange Freeze and a hot fudge ice cream cake.  T & S got it right---the food was delicious!

On Saturday, May 2, we again gathered (150 of us) to reconnect, eat, dance and enjoy the evening.  The Elks Lodge provided a buffet dinner which was very tasty.  For dessert we had a beautifully decorated cake.

Music for the evening was provided by DJ and keyboardist Rick (Ransom) with special appearances by Steve Dellinger, Mike McConkey, Jay Smith, and Dennis Monke.  Dancing continued until midnight!

The weekend was very special—old friends reconnected, we updated each other on what has happened in our lives since the 45th reunion, and from the comments heard, a good time was had by all!

Planning will begin for the next reunion—which may include the class of 1964, 1965 and 1966.

A special thanks to Sandi Johnson Watt for all her hard work and enthusiasm.  She has made the last three reunions so enjoyable.  The Reunion Committee is grateful to have her as our leader!

Please follow us on our website www.hphs1965.com and on Facebook-- hphs1965.  Pictures will be posted as soon as they are available.

Also, we thank our “amateur detective” Frank Bollinger for his tenacity in finding our classmates.  He has done an amazing job.
