Defense Contractor.  Married to Beverly Reid who is retired. Two children:  Steve, Jr. and Brandon. Two grandchildren.  Highlights:  Remaining happily married; raising two boys; surviving 24 years in the Army.  Best: Meeting future wife (Bev). Worst: Being sent home from Mardi Gras.

DJ and Assistant Skate Supervisor. Married to Bernard.  Three children:  Eileen, Deborah and Susan. Two grandchildren: Zak and Megan.  Highlights: Worked for the Department of Agriculture after graduation, working as a clerk and directing holiday programs.  After leaving the Department of Agriculture I taught pre-school children for several years.  For twenty-five years I have worked as the DJ and session supervisor for a roller rink in Columbia, Maryland.  Best/Worst: My best memories of High Point High School were the afternoon chorus class and typing class.  I enjoyed singing and I won a typing trophy for best typist.

Clinical Social Worker.  Masters of Social Work.  Married to Drexel who is retired.  Three children: Linda, Sandy and Debbie. Four grandchildren.  Highlights: Traveled the world.  Marrying my High School sweetheart and remaining married for forty (40) years.  Masters in Social Work, Clinical Director of an out-patient substance abuse treatment clinic.  Best: Socializing, being a majorette.  Worst: Surgery, after surgery on limbs.

 

Alcorn, Joyce Ann (Milikan), El Paso, TX

Missionary in Mexico, working with New Tribes Mission.  B.S. in Elementary Education at the University of Maryland.  Graduate studies in New Tribes Institute & Language & Linguistics Institute training/3 years. Three children: Nate, Josh and Natalie. Three grandchildren: Sophia, Josh and Iban.  Highlights: A personal, vibrant relationship with God, experiencing the abundant life Christ promises.  Teaching Elementary School for three years in Maryland.  Married for thirty-six (36) years to my college sweetheart, and it keeps getting better!  Enjoying God’s gift of three wonderful children and three grandchildren.  Thirty-six (36) years of missionary service, twenty-six (26) of which have been in Mexico. Involved in pioneer missionary work for five years among the Tarahmara Indians located high in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico.  Twenty-one (21) years in leadership with my husband who is the field director with responsibilities which include oversight of 70 missionary families.  Spanish language school, school for missionary children, finance and business office, guest home, and a training center for Tribal Evangelization for Hispanics with four year program.  Best/Worst: Being selected as the 1965 Blue & Gold Queen is one of my best memories.  It is hard to pick a bad memory because they tend to fade over the years.  Probably my worst memory would be struggling with Math and hating it.

Administrative Assistant.  Secretarial school.  Single.  Highlights: Working for a railroad trade association for the past thirty (30) years, traveling throughout the U.S.A., spending time with family and friends and enjoying life.  Best: Football games and dances.

  

Anderson, Joseph (Joe), Eldersburg, MD

Manager with the Federal Aviation Administration.  (3-years past retirement eligible!) Graduate, U.S. Army Artillery and Missile Officer Candidate School (1967); B.S. in Business and Public Administration, University of Maryland (1972); M.S. in Management, University of Southern California (1977); and working on Doctor of Strategic Leadership, Regent University (2007).  Married for thirty-five (35) years to Karen who is a full-time Mom to four children: Derek, Lindsay, Kyle and Brett. Grandchildren:  I ain’t old enough to have grandkids yet!!! Highlights: Surviving two (2) combat tours in Vietnam (’67-’69); Marrying the most wonderful woman in the entire world; Being blessed with four (4) of the greatest kids in the world; and knowing that the above was all by the grace and mercy of God!  Best:  Most of my best memories are about the friends that I had at HPHS and the goofy things we all did (for example, the straw hats and “Chucks” with baby blue shoestrings we wore as the “Cherry Hill Boys” – CHOT baby! (i.e., Cherry Hill on Top.)  Then there was Mr. Vincent and his constant bantering, or poor Mrs. Grumman and how we were always messing with her head.

B.A. University of Maryland. Divorced.  Two children:  Elizabeth and Susan. Two grandchildren: Samantha and Katie.  Highlights: Living in Italy and speaking Italian. Enjoying the “la bella vito.”  My daughter, Elizabeth, is a producer for NBC and Susan is happily married with two wonderful daughters.

Computer Router – PG County Public Schools; Training or further education:  University of Maryland. Married to Deborah. Children:  Anthony, Kevin and Asa.  Grandchildren:  None.  Highlights: Owner Operator of taxicabs for hire (Super Hacker, Inc.)  Appointed by (2) County Executives to Industry Boards.  President of “Cab Owner Association of PG County.” Best/Worst: My P.O.D. Teacher (Mr. Defupa), Mr. Willaker (GRIP) and Mrs. Conky – Can’t say MORE O.M.G.

 

Attick, Judith (Clarridge), Seattle, WA

Staffing/Pay Program Specialist, Federal Aviation Administration.  B.A. in Political Science, University of Washington.  Married to David who is an Accountant and fine art photographer.  Two children: Siobhan and Joshua.  Three grandchildren.  Highlights: Raising two really cool kids, sponsoring two Mien refugee families from Laos at the end of the Vietnam War.  Being a community activist in a liberal arts-centered neighborhood in Seattle.  Enjoying a career in the Federal government.  Being an avid Seattle Mariners’ fan in good years and bad.  Best: Great friends, working on the Beacon and great teachers.  The teachers I appreciate now even more than then.  Helen Biggs, Katherine Keene, Gerald Gough, Dorothy Beck, Hilda Byers, Belva Hopkins, Robert Wistort.  Worst: November 22, 1963 – hearing the news of John Kennedy’s assassination on the public address system.

Currently homemaker/mother/grandmother/inventor.  Married to Donald who is a plumber.  Two children:  Karla Kimble and Robert March.  Four (4) grandchildren: Karilee, Kaytie, Kellie and Kristen.  Highlights: Family.  Hairdresser in the early 70’s.  ’78 Secretary – worked for Samuel Meisel Company. (Duty free merchandise for military & embassies) until ’82. From ’82 – ’92  Schwartz Brothers, Inc. – Secretary to DFO and Comptroller.  Company was Record Distributor -CD’s & VHS.  Best/Worst: Shyness- I was so quiet and introverted people may not remember me.  The friends I remember most and was closest with were Sandy Durham (Brown) and Pat Walden.

Health & Safety Program Manager – Texas OSHA Consultation. AAS Fire Science Technology. B.S. Business Administration.  Married to Cathy.  No Children.  Highlights: Married my college sweetheart after I hadn’t seen her in 17 years (she made me write that) Best/Worst: Best:  Running track and cross country, Senior parties down at the Washington DC Mall, Senior Prom night.  Worst: Getting sick and being grounded after one of those senior parties down at the DC Mall.  Physics class.

 

Barnes, Gregory D., Oil City, PA

Retired Professor of Accountancy, Clarion University of Pennsylvania.  US Army 1966-1968.  Married two times, divorced two times.  Two children: Laura and Brad.  Highlights: Surviving one war, one vasectomy and two marriages.  Marriage to my ’65 classmate (Barbara Fisher) and our children.  Attempting to survive my parents Olive (92) and William (91) who live in New Hampshire.  Loving relationship with three High Point siblings: Bill ’56, Bonnie ’60 and Garry ’62.  Lasting friendships with grade school friend and ’65 classmate Bruce Crotts.  Best: 1) Admiring Donna Bath’s calves since junior high. 2) School wardrobe appreciation A.K.A. breast watching. 3) Weekend beer drinking with Mike Everest and others. 4) Being drafted with classmates Joe Anderson, Bernie Kelly and others. 5) Meeting my first wife, Barbara Fisher in POD class where we supported Barry Goldwater for President in opposition to most of the class.  Worst: 1) Holiday requirement of taking home on the bus our smelly gym clothes to launder. 2) Annual fear of anticipating the gym class requirement of climbing the rope to the ceiling. 3) Hormonal surges of puberty during math class that left my brain starved for oxygen (resulting in a lifetime of math anxiety) and necessitated carrying my books in front of my pants in the hallway during class changes. 4) Dread of asking a girl for a date to the senior prom. 5) Hearing the latest news on the Cuban missile crisis during class changes. 6) Being a nerd!

Social Worker.  B.A., M.A.  Married to Ruth who is an RN.  Three children:  Brian, David and Mark.  Highlights: Honored by Boy Scouts of America for thirty (30) years of service to our youth.  Received distinguished Alumni Award from Salem-Teikyo University (formerly Salem College of Salem, West Virginia.)  Best/Worst: None – only attended there one year.

Economist with a B.A, M.A. and PhD in Economics.  Married.  Two children: Rebecca and Jessica.  Highlights: Senior Economist, The Pentagon. Principle, DRI/McGraw Hill. Chief Economist, Merge Global. Developed large, global models for forecasting industrial, trade and demographic trends for the world economy.  Best/Worst: Ending up in detention for cutting in line to get just dessert.  Giving the last speech at graduation.

Computer Network Technical Support.  Married to Brenda who is a Chef.  One child: Nicole.  Highlights:  Early retirement from AT&T in 1998.  Served in Vietnam in the 70’s.  I got my pilot’s license in the 70’s.  Became an avid skier and sailor in the 80’s.  Golfer in the 80’s and 90’s.  Proud husband in 1987 and proud dad in 1990.  Started my own computer services company in 2002.

Worst: Standing up to a ully during Physical Education.

Married to Kyle who is retired from the University of Maryland System. Aerospace Engineer.  Never married.  Highlights: Mountain biking.  Snow skiing. Getting my master’s degree and living in LA.  Best: Track and cross country.  I still see Coach Ballou when I get back east.  He is my most important mentor ever.

Retired from General Motors Acceptance Corporation.  Highlights:  Successful career at G.M.A.C. for thirty-one (31) years.  Spending the last seventeen (17) years with two nieces and two nephews who are the joy of my life.  They are 17, 13, 12 and 6 years old.  Best: Meeting many people and enjoying good times, but lost contact after graduation.  Worst: Loss of school mates in the Vietnam War.

Home Inspector (self employed.)  College graduate.  Married to jenny who is a teacher.  Two children:  Jason and Jessica.  Highlights: Coaching my kids in sports over the years.  Ski Instructor for Wintergreen Ski Resort.  Teaching the disabled how to ski and have fun.  Best: All the great times with great classmates.  Playing with a bunch of great guys on the football team.

Teacher; Master of Education, Director, Childcare Facility.  Married to Michael.  Three children: Christine, Theresa and Kevin.  Three grandchildren:  Cole, Isabella and Alex.  Highlights: Scuba certificate at age 55!  Director of Day Care, Certification from Florida.  Director of After School Programs at a private school in Tampa.  Teacher for thirty-six (36) year.  Writer of Children’s books.  Best: Mr. Richards my English Teacher, Great teacher – Great Friends!  College Park Woods Group! Worst: Not being inducted into the National Honor Society.  I knew I had the grades, but I did not know the rules about attending school for at least one year.  I moved to Maryland in my senior year.  I thought my name would be called that day & I never understood why.  I wasn’t inducted until now – You must attend the school for at least two (2) years.

Retired for three (3) years.  Married to Patricia who is also retired.  Highlights: Enjoying retirement.  Moving from Washington to a small town in Ohio.  Traveling to Hawaii and the Caribbean.  We also enjoy our two dogs: Minnie (a mini Doberman) and Saasa (a Lhaso Apso.) Swimming in our pool.  In my spare time I ride my Craftsman.

Teacher at a State Prison.  M.S. in Business Management/CA State Teaching Credential.  Married to Kay who is a Financial Assistant.  Two stepchildren:  Jim and Brian.  Two grandchildren:  Ryan and Cheryl.  Highlights: Career Naval officer/Aviator and Teaching.  Best:  Track/Cross Country teams.  Worst:  French.

Dallalio, Gheri L. (McCollough), Arnold MD

Real Estate/Owner/Associate Broker/Settlement Officer/Regional MD/DC Director VA/DE with Help-U-Sell.  Married to David who is a Broker/Owner/Regional Director MD/DC/VA/DE.  Two children:  Denise and Brigitte.  Two grandchildren:  Mitchell and Brooke.  Highlights: My wonderful two daughters and my precious grandchildren.  Also, our growing real estate business.  Best: We were on shifts (example 8:30 to 2:30 pm) during the school year and I met so many new friends but one is still my best friend – Murrell Ally.  I thank God for her friendship thru the years.  Worst:  JFK’s death.

Periodontist, Certified Financial Planner.  Married to Sue.  Two children:  Michael and Jodi.  Two grandchildren:  Jaden and Jacob.  Highlights: Periodontist for thirty (30) years.  Certified Financial Planner who has written three (3) books on investing and lectures around the country to mainly dentists about investment.  Having two beautiful grandchildren.  Best/Worst: I was only there for my senior year, and I, unfortunately do not remember very much about that year.

 

DeLauter, Howard Ignatius -  "Nace", Severn, MD

Operating Engineer.  He says he learns something everyday!  Married to Kathi.  Two children:  Tina and Jeff.  One grandchild:  Cody.  Highlights:  Successfully raising two children.  Never spending a night in jail.  Never being audited.  Being clinically dead twice and recovering to tell about it.  Best: Too many to list.  Worst: Being suspended for an innocent “prank” with Dexter Drake!

Vehicle Design.  B.S. – University of Maryland.  Masters – George Washington.  Married to Barbara who is an Interior Designer – Principal.  Two children:  Justin and Natasha.  Highlights: Toured Europe on motorcycle for three months.  Toured the United States by van for three months.  Street Rod Builder.  Extensive traveler.  Married for thirty-three (33) years.  Best/Worst: What a great time to go to high school.  Our problems were minimal compared to today’s high school.

Economist.  Certified Financial Planner.  Master in Economics and Financial Planning.  Married to Janice who is an Instructional Assistant.  Two children:  Theresa and Greg.  One grandchild:  Patrick.  Highlights: Coaching several of my son’s sports teams.  Won many golf tournaments including the Federal Government Championship and the Maryland State Senior Championship.

Dorr, Joanne Marie (Gingerich), Bowie, MD

Personnel Security Specialist.  U.S. Department of Transportation.  Divorced two times.  Three children:  Erin, Kelli and Rosch.  Two grandchildren:  Morgan and Jacob.  Highlights: As of December ’04 I will have worked for the U.S. Government for 39 years.  I went from a secretary in 1965 to a Personnel Security Specialist in the early ‘90’s.  I raised my two daughters pretty much by myself since they were 6 & 8 and I managed to keep my house and support all of us.  My daughter Kelli was married in April 2001.  Best/Worst: I really don’t remember much about school.  I did have a twin sister to share the experiences with, however.

Firefighter/Self Employed Construction Business. College.  Married to Jean who is a bank teller and has her own home office.  Three children:  Tim, Tammy and Tom.  Seven grandchildren: Marissa, Philip, Justin, Brianna, Devin, Brelle and Madison.  Highlights: Retiring in August 2005 after thirty-one (31) years of firefighting.  I have had my own construction company (over thirty (30) years) with a branch in Indianapolis run by my son Tim.  Best: Food friends.

 

Bradburn, Donna Marie (Dube), California, MD

School Bus Driver.  Associate Degrees in Accounting and Management Development.  Single.  Two children:  Ken and Dave.  Two grandchildren.  Highlights: By far, my most important accomplishments are my two sons.  My late husband and I built our house ourselves from the ground up.  In 1988, I experienced two life altering events.  So, in 1989 I went back to school and earned highest honors for Assoc. Degree in Accounting and another in Management Development.  For over 16 years, I was the St. Mary’s County Coordinator for the American Cancer Society’s Reach to Recover Program and the Facilitator for the county’s Breast Cancer Support Group.  I was also treasurer on the county’s American Cancer Society’s Board for many years.  Best: My best memory is my senior prom.  My aunt, who was a professional seamstress, made my outfit and that night I felt like a princess.  Worst: Was my having to walk home after school in the rain.  That, in itself, wouldn’t have been bad, but I was wearing a wool dress and had an auburn rinse in my hair.  The wool stunk and the rinse just ran down my face.  Not a pretty picture, especially when I rode the transit bus for the last leg of my journey.

Cultural Anthropologist.  PhD from Washing State University in 2001.  Divorced after seventeen years of marriage (that was enough.)  Three children:  Rebecca, Steven and Shoshana.  One grandchild:  Alexis.  Highlights: Published an E.S.L. (English as Second Language) method in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Completed Doctorate in Anthropology in 2001.  Professional Research Publications.  Raised three children, mostly as a single mom.  Best: Band!  Damn we  were good! Band – Not another extra rehearsal?!  (The wrath of Don Smith has scourged many a student!)  Watch out for flying erasers and that broken off baton!

Computer Programmer (retired)  BS University of Maryland.  Married to Marylee.  Two children:  John Jr. and Joseph.  One grandchild:  Elias.  Highlights: Made it to retirement at age 56.  The wife and I are still married and have two homes; one in Maryland, the other in Florida.  Known as snowbirds, we plan to spend 6 months at each residence.  Worst: I was not a very good high school student, did not study, got poor grades and barely passed.  I absolutely hated school, however, I did enjoy interacting with other students, which usually got me into trouble.

Special Education Teacher.  Specialization to teach students (birth – 21) who are visually impaired and training to teach the deaf/hearing impaired.  Married to James who is retired from Education.  Two children:  Jamie and Jennifer.  Four grandchildren.  Highlights: I BECAME a Christian in 1966.  Graduated from University of Maryland and was married in 1969.  I have a truly amazing husband and two fantastic kids who are happily married (both live in Lynchburg, VA.)  I love teaching students with special needs who bring lots of joy to my life.  God has blessed our family.  Even in time of sorrow, He has been there for us.  Best: Learning that Katie Keene was a fascinating woman.  Working in the infirmary.  Cheering for HP in the pep squad.  Worst: Living so far from school that I couldn’t attend after school activities.  Seeing the impact of racism, even at HP (focused on a friend.)  Not being allowed to be in chorus.

Retired.  B.S. from the University of Maryland in ’69.  Married to Maria who is retired.  Two children:  Justin and Marisa.  Highlights: My wife and I raised two wonderful children.  Best:  High school baseball teams/15 cent McDonald’s cheeseburgers.  Worst:  that I don’t have a memory that goes back that far.

Retired.  Married for thirty-six (36) years to Leon who is a Sales Executive.  Two children:  Marty and Mike and a set of twin grandsons.  Highlights: Raising two fine sons and retiring as Assistant to the President, University of Maryland after thirty-three (33) years.  Best:  Driving my ’56 Chevy to school and having my own parking spot!

Recently retired.  Married for thirty-four (34) years to Robert who is also retired.  Three children:  Cary, Kevin and Shane.  Highlights:  Raising three sons, all of whom I am very proud of.  Working many years in a great job as a Research Coordinator for the University of Maryland.  Spending several fun filled years as a Redskin Cheerleader.  Best:  Performing with the HPHS band as a twirler.

Sales Management.  Married to Susan who is in Purchasing.  One child:  Michael.  Highlights:  I have been a Foster Father to five (5) children in the past seven (7) years.  Four have returned to their natural families and we are adopted the other.

Law Firm Administrator.  Divorced.  One child:  Heather.  Best:  Hanging out with the Berwyn Boys at Johnson’s drug store in Berwyn and jamming to music.  Hanging out at Greenbelt Center and Hollywood.  Going to the Bladensburg Firehouse Friday night dances.  Cruising the area for parties.  Piling in cars and going to the North Beach Pier.  Sitting in the back of the school bus with Pat Mitchell counting our lunch money and talking about what parties we were going to on the weekend and what we were going to drink, and good friends.  Worst:  Peer pressure and trying to be cool.  Getting grounded for coming home late.  Staying up late studying and grades.

 

Hartnell, Cynthia (Horlen), Mandaue City, Philippines

Homemaker, Baptist Missionary.  Attended college.  Married to Aubrey (Bo) who is a Baptist Missionary.  Four children:  Christine, Aileen, Deborah and Elizabeth.  Two grandchildren:  Hannah and Aubrey.  Highlights: Four wonderful daughters who each have married wonderful guys.  Thirty-five years of married life.  Serving God and teaching bible to Filipinos for thirty years.  Best: Faithful friends who helped me “survive” school and made life normal and enjoyable for me.  My father contracted A.L.S. during my Junior High and High school years which made life complicated at home and school.  Thanks for standing by me.

Retired from the Federal Government (GSA, IT Solutions CFO)  Attended 3+ years of college.  Married three times, recent marriage to Larry Larone.  Three children:  Sheila, Lynn and Karen.  Seven grandchildren:  Jackson, Autumn, Bryan, Christian, TJ, Joey and James.  Highlights:  A very fulfilling and rewarding career with GSA, and more importantly, wonderful years as a mother, grandmother and wife.  Best/Worst:  I like my teachers and learned many things that have helped me all through life.  I loved the teen-age social years.  I only regret that I was caught smoking once (Now I do not believe in smoking.)

Retired.  College courses.  Married to Lynda who is retired.  Two children:  Jeffrey and Beth Lynne.  Four grandchildren:  Jacob, Jonathan, Jordan and Amber.  Highlights:  I retired after thirty-six and a half years as an Assistant District Manager for Southern Maryland Electric Co-op.  I supervised sixty employees and a $5 million budget.

 

Hickman, John P., Bel Alton, MD

Soon to be retired from Xerox Technician (August ’05.)  Married to Marianna who is a Middle School Teacher.  One child:  Kelly.  Grandchildren:  Would have to ask Kelly, but I don’t think so!  Highlights:  Major accomplishment – lasting this long and looking so damn good.  Breaking 80 at gold (ONCE!)  Watching my beautiful daughter grow up, surviving one divorce and marrying a much improved second wife.  Making it to retirement!!  Best:  Friday night football games.  Junior Prom.  Senior Prom.  Sadie Hawkins.  Studying at PG Regional Library (yeah right.)  Cruising the “MO” or Micky D’s or PG Regional Library.  All the good friends and beautiful girls I knew.  Graduation, and many more too numerous to list… Worst:  President Kennedy’s assassination (during sophomore English and US History) and honestly, I can’t think of any others.  I remember my days at High Point as being such a BLAST!

 

Higdon, Jr., Ralph V., Edgewater, MD

National Account Manager for Dorling Kindersley Publishing.  B.S. from the University of Maryland.  Married to Margaret who is a Medical Specialist at Davidsonville Elementary.  Two children:  Jonathan and Michael.  Highlights:  Extensive travel (business & personal.)  I took two (2) months in summer of 1970 driving/camping across the country in a Volkswagen Beetle with my good friend and neighbor Bernie Brew.  I married Margaret in June of 1971 and we drove and camped across the country for Four (4) weeks.  What a honeymoon!  We’ve never been camping since.  Best/Worst:  I’m hard-pressed to come up with my any “worst” memories, but I had a great time and had a lot of fun on my Cross Country Track teams, especially with Don Zalucky as a teammate.  What a funny guy!  My favorite teacher who had the biggest influence on my four (4) years at High Point was Charles Issing, my Latin teacher for three (3) years.

Retired.  Bach Science Nursing.  Divorced.  I can’t remember much about high school.

 

Holbrook, Dan, Knoxville, TN

Estate Planning Lawyer.  Married to Mary Wells – High Point class of ’66.  Two children:  Christopher and Wells.  Two grandchildren.  Highlights: Happily married after all these years – empty nest years are the best!  Ran Grand Canyon form north rim to south rim in one day with my two sons, and still running long distances, especially trails.  Started my own law firm see www.hpestatelaw.com.  Active in church and community activities.  Live in a townhouse in downtown Knoxville, where we walk to everything.  Best: The smiles of the people I cared about.  Worst:  Feeling embarrassed as a wallflower.

Not working at this time. Divorced. Two children: TJ and Eric: Five grandchildren. Highlights: My two sons and my five grandchildren. Best/Worst: I have a lot of fond memories of my high school days. Fortunately, my memory blotted out the bad memories..

Retired Federal Government.  B.S. from George Washington University.  Married 2 times.  Married to Donna.  Two children:  Travis and Michael.  Highlights: US Army ’66-’68.  A.A. in Business at GWU.  Raising my sons as a single father.  My marriage to Donna.  Retiring at 55.  Driving NASCAR Cup Cars.  Traveling all over the US & Hong Kong (wife’s family) with my wife and sons.  Worst:  Being 1A while at HPHS for the draft.  Best:  Running Track – Spring ’63 and ’64. 

 

Horigan, Jr., Richard D., Fairfield, PA

Retired (1973-2002) Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum – Chief of Restoration – Senior Restoration Specialist.  Some classes at Charles County Community College (when working at Naval Ordinance Station, Indian Head, MD 1971-1973)  Married to Carol who is a part-time Antique Dealer and Clerk – Emmitsburg Antique Mall, Emmitsburg, MD.  Two children:  Shawn and Kelly.  Highlights: Special Forces-Detachment 2-First Air Commandos (1966-1970.)  Getting my pilot’s license (1969.)  Working on the Smithsonian aircraft and spacecraft such as:  Wright Flyer, Spirit of St. Louis, Bell X-1 (first airplane to break the sound barrier), Enola Gay and both American and Russian spacecraft.  Building my own airplane hangar in retirement.  Best/Worst: Graduating and moving on. 

 

Hughes, James (Jim) W., Harrisonburg, VA

Cobbler.  Lots & lots of further education…very diversified.  Very married…to the same wonderful woman-Carole (Crandall..Class of ’66.), who is an Assistant Comptroller for Harrisonburg Electric Commission.  Three children:  Deborah, Marcia and Scott.  Five grandchildren:  Alexander, Brianna, Lillian, Shelby and Seaira.  Highlights: I’ve had many exciting things happen in the last forty (40) years.  Everything we have done has been a learning experience.  From parenting 101 to the three businesses that we have owned.  I’ve been in sales and have had the good fortune to be awarded a national recognition for what we accomplished.  We somehow raised our children without losing our hair and keeping them out of jail.  We are blessed with five (5) beautiful grandchildren.  We now have, finally, found the work that I really enjoy and fortunately have been very good at it.  Our Cobbler shop has done very well and my abilities have gained national recognition.  I do a monthly “how to” article in our trade magazine, “Shop Talk.”  I’ve been very active in the VFW working with veterans, and enjoying the camaraderie.  I have been post commander twice and very involved on the state level.  I am also active in the American Legion and currently hold an office there.  Carole and I are now doing a lot of traveling.  We enjoy attending teddy bear shows in Gettysburg and other places the Teddy Bear fanciers gather.  We also enjoy traveling to shoe service trade shows all over the U.S., next stop, San Antonio, TX.  We just enjoy going to look-see anywhere and everywhere.  We are going to Savannah in the Spring to meet my brother, Tom and his wife Susan who live in Jacksonville, FL.  Tom is a High Point graduate, Class of ’63.

 

Hull, Judith L. (Daymont), Durham, NC

Business Owner/Manager.  B.S. in Nursing.  Master of Science in Management.  Married to Peter who is also a Business Owner.  Two children:  Todd and Chad.  Highlights: Air Force Nurse during the Vietnam War.  Nursing instructor at community college.  Own and manage a successful party equipment rental business with my husband of over thirty-five (35) years.  Best: Summit Singer road trips to sing at various places in the Washington area.  Latin class with Mr. Issing.  Worst: Sitting in English class when the announcement came over the PA system the Pres. Kennedy had been shot.

 

Jackson, II, Richard D., Dagsboro, DE

Retired IBM Manager in June 2004.  B.S. from University of Maryland.  Married to Jo.  Two children:  Kelly and Brett.  Highlights: Thirty-six years of marriage to a wonderful wife, my children, family and friends.  Thirty-five successful years to IBM. Living on the Waterfront of Indian River Bay (near Bethany Beach, DE.) in our retirement dream house that we designed.  Best: Every day being with friends and being proud to be in the graduating class of ’65 (one of the best if not the greatest class in the history of High Point.)  Too many great memories to list!  Worst: The day the announcement came over the PA system the President Kennedy had been shot and died.  I was in French class in the portables.  After the announcement and during the rest of the school day-the silence except for girls crying!

 Not working at the moment.  B.S. from Boston University.  Married to Charles who is a cinema executive.  Three children:  Joshua, Sean and Brett.  Highlights: I have lived in Europe for the past 20 years.  We are currently living in Rome, Italy for 6 years; Paris, France for 2 years; New York for 2 years; London, England for 10 years.  Amazing experiences in different cultures, with lots of great travel.  Best/Worst: Great memories of working on “The Beacon” newspaper.  Literary magazine and yearbook.  Great friends and some memorable teachers.

Part-time Office Manager –Counseling Center.  Married to Mark who is an Account Executive.  Two children:  Christine and Kevin.  Highlights: Enjoying life and raising two wonderful kids.  A lot of traveling.  Experienced landlord with rental properties.  Coached high school cheerleaders for seven years.  Still bowling and playing golf.  Best: Remembering all my great friends and things we did in high school.  Worst: Not making the cheerleading squad in my senior year – got to final tryouts – “lost my voice,” not good!

Karlinsky, Phyllis (Chorazy), Reston, VA

Chief Operating Officer.  B.S. in Science, Education.  Masters in Accounting; CPA; CFP.  Married to Leonard who is a retired teacher.  Two children:  Ryan and Joshua.  Highlights:  Had my own Financial Services Practice.  Manage on e of the largest cosmetic surgery practices in the country.  Will be celebrating my 25th wedding anniversary this year.  Walked in the 1st WDC Avon Breast Cancer walk and raised over $9000 for the cause.  Have been a supporter of ending world hunger in our lifetime.  Best:  Walking the halls of HPHS every morning and people watching.  I loved my classes with Mr. Loh and Mrs. McClellan who both inspired me to pursue my dreams. 

Keeney, Kendra (Hurt), Arnold, MD

Aquatic Fitness Instructor. University of Maryland. Married to Jerry who is an Electrical Engineer. Two children: Kevin and Yvonne. Four grandchildren Highlights: Married for thirty (37) years Grandchildren are so much fun. International travel. Best: Graduation. Worst: 10th grade - split shifts.

 

Kerr, Michael Russell, Great Mills, MD

Police Officer (retired January 2004.)  AA Degree in Law Enforcement Administration (PG Community College.)  Married to Linda who is retired as an Executive Administrative Aide.  One stepson:  David.  One granddaughter:  Anya.  Highlights:  Vietnam ’65-’66.  US Navy.  DC Firefighter ’71-’76.  Police Officer from ’77 to Dec. 31, 2003.  Fire Chief (volunteer) at Burtonsville Vol. Fire Department for 15+ years (stepped down in ’99.)  Married for second time for almost thirty-one (31) years.  Moved to southern St. Mary’s County in Sept. ’02.  Retired from Police Department Jan. 1, ’04.  Vice President, since Dec.’00 of the Chesapeake Region Law Enforcement Accreditation Alliance (CRLEAA), which includes law enforcement agencies from Maryland, Delaware and DC.  Now working as a part-time consultant for the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office regarding international law enforcement accreditation through CALEA.  Best/Worst:  Time colors all recollection.  I Don’t have any real traumatic memories of High Point.  Of course now I know that life was much simpler then.  I do vividly recall being in Mr. Brewrink’s Shop class when President Kennedy was shot in Dallas and how it affected all of us.  Best memories are skipping school a LOT in my Senior year and going to the museums (!?) in DC with my best friend and fellow graduate, Paul Leibe.

 

Keyser, Robert B., Sumter, SC

Plant Controller, Westinghouse Electric and Eaton Corp., thirty-two (32) years.  B.S. in Accounting from the University of Maryland 1971.  Married to Brenda who is an Tuomey Hospital Administrator.  Two children:  Brent and Amanda and two grandchildren.  Highlights:  1st Westinghouse Electric Controller to open business in Ireland from 1978 through 1981.  Assisted 1st Irish employee and family to immigrate to USA in 1987, the family and children are very successful as USA citizens.  Best/Worst: With our football team being untitled/undefeated we lost to Northwestern High School 6-0 late in the 4th quarter to lose the county championship.

Manager in the Department of Defense.  BA, University of MD CP, MA Johns.  Married to William.  Highlights: Working on arms control negotiations for the Chemical Weapons Convention.  Best: Mrs. Giedrys “Russian Class.”  Worst: Trigonometry.

Retired.  Married to Susan.  Children:  Steve, Jeff, Marc, Stephanie and Sherrie.  Grandchildren:  Mike, Samantha, Craig, Tyler, Kiersten, Chloe and Jacob.

Retired as a Human Resources Manager.  B.S. from the University of Maryland (Numerous Professional Courses.)  Married to Linda who is a retired as a Technical Publications Editor.  One child:  Kevin.  One grandchild on the way.  Highlights: Completed a 32 year career in the Federal Service, Certified as a senior professional in Human Resources (SPHR.)  Recipient of numerous awards and recognitions.  Best:  Football Games and graduation week.  Worst:  Getting caught skipping school.  Miss Comby catching me & my girlfriend (wife) kissing in the hallway.

 

Kubis, Margaret K. (Johnson), Lincoln, MA

Formerly a Loan Officer, Real Estate Broker and Licensed Real Estate Appraiser.  Marries to Richard who is a Real Estate Developer.  On son:  James.  Highlights: Widowed by another husband; Marshall D. O’Connell.  Married now to Richard Johnson.  He has one grandson and one granddaughter.  Husband and I spend our free time fishing and boating in Spring and Fall and we ski during the Winter.
